Roots Foundation: Celebrating Nature and Sparking Sustainable Design
Through collaborative efforts spanning the entire supply chain – from farmers to manufacturers, designers to builders – Roots Foundation forges a path towards sustainable innovation. They are on a mission to inspire artists, designers and architects to embark on this transformative journey. The exhibition ‘From Dutch Soil’ curated by Simone van Es, spotlights Silphium Perfoliatum (Silphy), a bee-friendly fiber crop offering sustainable solutions for agriculture, building and design. It exemplifies regenerative farming, offering a sustainable alternative.
Back to the Flax: reviving flax as a versatile, eco-friendly powerhouse for modern industries
10 people, 100 days, 1.000 m2. With Back to the Flax the consortium Kazerne Young (2nd years Design Academy Eindhoven Students) are going back to the roots as well. Flax, once a staple in European daily life, has gradually faded out of sight. However, there is untapped potential as a sustainable and circular material waiting to be explored. Through research and material experiments, from seeds to crop into nature inclusive applications, the consortium reintroduces the material into modern contexts. Linde van Vlijmen will present the result of their research. Sometimes going back to the past shows you the path to the future.
During the event they will share their expertise, vision and engage in a debate about our future challenges. Moderated by Charlotte Grün.
