In the small town where Doris Verlaat grew up, she never felt quite like she fit in with the accepted local ‘norm’. Daily get-togethers over coffee were a fixture of village life; a time to gossip and discuss who did or didn’t fit the mould. And so with her coffee set ‘Normaal’, Doris plays with the mould, creating more freedom for differences. How? At first, the cups and saucers appear ‘odd’ or mismatched, but a closer look reveals that the different elements are the same; they are just composed differently.
